Kriegszeit, no. 11 (4 November 1914)1914

Not on view
Lithographic print, front page of Kriegszeit Künstlerflugblätter No. 11, November 1914, with a gestural illustration of a large bird attacking a crouching bear, surrounded by German blackletter and serif type
Lithograph depicting a chaotic battle scene with dense crowds of soldiers advancing across a landscape, rendered in loose, energetic linework. A tall diagonal flagpole dominates the center foreground; broken crosses, bare trees, and rubble scatter the foreground. Heavy charcoal shading suggests smoke-filled skies above ruined structures in the background.
Print with two sketched animal vignettes and a block of German text. Upper vignette: two dark, hunched boar-like creatures facing each other in a confrontational stance. Lower vignette: a spotted feline, rendered in lighter strokes, lying low and elongated. Gothic script text centered between the vignettes.
Charcoal or lithograph portrait of a man in close-up, head and shoulders, wearing a military uniform and a bandage wrapped around his head, rendered with loose expressive mark-making. German text caption below.
