In 2016, LACMA invited Helen Pashgian to create a multiple as a benefit for Benefactor- and Angel-level members of the museum’s Thirtieth Collectors Committee. In covering her archival inkjet print with a frosted acrylic “skin,” the artist achieved—in mediums that lend themselves to multiples—the same ethereal quality of color and light that she more typically creates in her unique sculptures. Pashgian has spoken of her desire to “touch on the mysterious part beyond which the eye cannot go but beyond which the eye struggles to go.” Untitled attains this mystery.
