Curatorial Notes
According to art historian Katharine Roof, Just Onions was painted in Bruges, Belgium, in the summer of 1912, while Chase was conducting one of his annual summer art classes. For her, its richness of color and textures and the distinction of handling place it among the best still-life painting of the old masters.
