Curatorial Notes

Sashes like this one could have been worn on the body or added to burials as part of the ritual offering. The bright red, yellow, and black zoomorphic designs feature monkeys and other beings, which are abstracted and geometricized as is typical of Wari weavings. They add another layer of detail to the myriad ways Wari individuals incorporated color and pattern symbolism into their daily lives.
