Curatorial Notes

Maryam Zandi was one of the few women photojournalists to document the revolution; her carefully framed and often provocative compositions testify to her talent and her bravery. To maintain her role as an objective witness, Zandi sought to compose a photographic memoir documenting the progression of the revolution and its immediate aftermath. This image belongs to the period of celebration marking the departure of the Shah, but before the return of Khomeini.
