Footnotes
(1) According to David Robinson (Wally Findlay Galleries), letter to Alfred Schmela, dated 24 November 1981, the “entire collection comes from Jean Matisse and each one is authenticated by Mme. Dutruit [sic].” The letter is folded and inserted into The Getty Research Institute Library’s copy of their 1981 Wally Findlay Galleries exhibition catalogue. It is uncertain if Wally Findlay owned the Matisse drawings at this time, acquiring them directly from Jean Matisse, or if the items were on consignment.
(2) This drawing was sold with a photo-certificate from Mme Marguerite Duthuit dated “Paris, 25/11/80.”
