Honoré Daumier
Les Philantropes du Jour (series of prints)1844

Not on view
Lithograph caricature of a man in a long coat leaning over a counter toward a second barely-visible figure, a top hat placed upside-down between them; bold black ink on cream paper
Lithograph with bold, sketchy linework; three figures in 19th-century dress gathered at a shop entrance beneath a sign reading "VENTE À 50% DE RABAIS"; two top-hatted men face a shorter figure pulling back hanging fabric; French caption "LES PHILANTROPES DU JOUR" above.
Lithograph depicting three seated men in 19th-century dress conversing outdoors among stacked lumber and stone blocks. The central figure wears a tall top hat and dark coat; the flanking figures in working-class clothing have iron balls and chains at their feet. Loose, expressive linework with monogram 'h.D.' at lower left.
Lithograph with caricatured figures: a standing man behind a podium extends a laurel wreath toward a second man bowing deeply before him, both in dark 19th-century dress, with a crowd of onlookers sketched loosely in the background. Bold ink lines with soft gray wash.
