The garments traditionally worn for fox hunting reflect the sport’s origins as the pastime of English country gentlemen. In the early nineteenth century, hunters wore fashionable clothing modified to withstand the rigors of riding and the elements. This jacket combines practical water-resistant wool with the luxury of skilled tailoring and expensive materials, including gilt buttons bearing the name of the owner’s club, the Ayrshire Hunt, and an image of a fox.
