This desk by Swedish émigré Greta Grossman exemplifies how she combined Scandinavian and Californian design influences. The asymmetrical forms, juxtaposition of light and dark, and use of Formica contribute to the piece’s modern aesthetic. But Grossman’s choice of iron and walnut and the skillful way she engineered the desk reveal an interest in traditional materials and the cabinetmaker’s training that she received in Sweden.
