Curatorial Notes

This bottle features fluted decoration along its body produced by blowing molten glass into a ribbed mold. As with many vessels made in the medieval Islamic world, it is difficult to say precisely what it was designed to contain. Related examples with tapering forms (see M.2002.1.477) were used to hold nonliquid cosmetics.
