- Curatorial Notes
Similar to other blue, white, and black ceramics of the late medieval period, this bowl’s color scheme is inspired by Chinese ceramics while its four lotus-like blossoms are also ultimately derived from a similar source. Rather than directly imitating imported porcelains, however, this bowl represents a translation of foreign motifs into an Islamic style, revealed by its bold curving interlace design and pleasing symmetry.
