Curatorial Notes
Captain George Griffin (1808-1838) was the oldest child of Mary and John Griffin. He served as an aide to General Zachary Taylor during the Seminole War, dying in service at age thirty. The portrait of the captain in military dress has been dated to a few years before his death.
The miniaturist is unknown
