Curatorial Notes
The construction worker's unwavering gaze and the position of the camera at eye level imply his active participation and equitable relationship with the photographer. Walker Evans has widened the aperture to bring the subject into focus while blurring the background. The subject's expression is one of openness, and his direct eye contact implies honesty and industriousness.
