John Atkinson Dunbar, a New York real estate mogul and good friend of Diego Rivera, is seated on an equipal, a traditional Mexican chair. He is portrayed with sculpture in the style of West Mexican ceramics, pointing to Rivera's interest in the ancient traditions of Mexico. Ilona Katzew, 2008
