Curatorial Notes
Soon after her arrival in Los Angeles in late 1928 Hessova began this view of the old City Hall, just before it was demolished early in 1929. The Richardsonian Romanesque structure was erected in 1888 at Broadway Street between Second and Third streets in what was originally the civic center of the city. With the completion of the new City Hall in 1927, the structure was considered obsolete and in an inappropriate location and was torn down.
