Curatorial Notes

Elaborately patterned cloths like this may have been used in a ritual context, carrying items such as coca leaves, shells, miniature llamas in ceramic or stone, or unspun wool, and then laid out as a tablecloth for the installation of the offerings. Because this textile is patterned with common Wari religious iconography (llamas, composite bird-animals, and headdress), its function was most likely ceremonial.
