Curatorial Notes

Pablo Albarenga felt there was a void of imagery depicting the peoples of the Amazon—out of balance with the saturation of images of the disappearing forest and giving voice to those who have the most to lose by its slow destruction. His portraits pair individuals with aerial views of their green spaces. Nantu is an activist from the Ecuadorian Amazon who founded a nonprofit to develop clean energy boats. He wears traditional Achuar dress and lies on top of palm leaves he uses to build homes.
