Farah Al Qasimi’s oeuvre is full of maximalist patterns and rich colors, juxtaposed with quieter self-reflective dialogues focusing
on the individual. This photograph demonstrates the artist’s keen eye for capturing a private moment and the complexity surrounding
it. The cacophony of colors and designs of the carpet and the woman’s clothes render the different components nearly indistinguishable from one another, creating an illusory effect while toying with ideas of camouflage and concealment. Al Qasimi was born in the United Arab Emirates and is currently active in New York. She received her Bachelor degree from Yale University and her Master of Fine Arts from the Yale School of Art.
