Afsoon’s series, "Persian Expressions," are inspired by the allegorical and often humorous messages behind popular Persian proverbs. The artist illustrates these amusing sayings according to her own spontaneous, subjective, and comical imagination, abandoning a mere literal illustration of the texts. In Pomegranates and Quince, Afsoon depicts a seemingly affluent woman surrounded by lush images and lyrics from a Persian folk song that parents often sing to their daughters in which her beauty and worth is exalted. Born in Iran in 1961 but now based in London, Afsoon has shown her work in multiple solo and group exhibitions around the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, Morocco, Dubai, and Jeddah. As a writer, she has also published a novel and a number of short stories.
