Afsoon’s series, "Persian Expressions," is inspired by the allegorical and often humorous messages behind popular Persian proverbs. The artist illustrates these amusing sayings according to her own spontaneous, subjective, and comical imagination. Electricity or Oil is based on a popular expression that loosely translates to "just my luck." The work depicts an attractive young woman who complains of her rotten luck of being surrounded by men whom she does not find very appealing. Born in Iran in 1961 but now based in London, Afsoon has shown her work in multiple solo and group exhibitions around the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, Morocco, Dubai, and Jeddah. As a writer, she has also published a novel and a number of short stories.
