Curatorial Notes
Fort Ruger is on the island of O'ahu and served as the first military post in the Territory of Hawai'i. It was named after Civil War General Thomas H. Ruger and built near Diamond Head in the Waikiki region. The fort was established by the U.S for the purpose of defending the harbor of the newly annexed territory.
