Curatorial Notes

Dariush Nehdaran belongs to a generation of photographers, including Dadbeh Bassir and Naghmeh Ghassemlou, which seeks to document Iran’s rapidly evolving urban centers. Nehdaran frequently highlights the ever present, yet oft-ignored companions of everyday life, such as shadows and reflections, to capture the world around him. In his series, "The Life of Shadows," he frames and manipulates his images of Isfahan in such a way that shadows, rather than the city’s inhabitants, become the principal players of the urban scenes.

Born in Isfahan, Nehdaran received a B.F.A. in Painting from the University of Science and Culture in Tehran. He has exhibited throughout Iran and in the US, France, Brazil, United Kingdom, and United Arab Emirates. He now lives and works in San Francisco.
