Curatorial Notes

Nazgol Ansarinia, who lives and works in Tehran, studied in London for her BA and in San Francisco for her MFA. Her work has been shown internationally and recognized with several awards including the Abraaj Capital Art Prize in 2009. In her newspaper collages, Ansarinia challenges our notion of truth and the idea of the image/text as historical document. "Enemies Should Know that Syria Will Never Fall" shows the barely perceptible newspaper image of Bashar al-Assad and associated text obscured and refracted by an overlaid prism of geometric forms.
