Curatorial Notes

Asaad Arabi belongs to the generation of Syrian artists who came of age during the 1960’s. Born in Damascus in 1941, Arabi lives and works in Paris but he continues to explore the dichotomy of life in Syria through his paintings. These three watercolors are concerned with the hidden world of Damascus and with contrasts and duality, such as those that exist between veiled and unveiled women, and between the exterior and interior of Damascene houses.
