This cuff bracelet features the fish-and-wave motif that was a favorite of Margot van Voorhies Carr, inspired by Japanese ceramics and textiles. Two twisting koi fish swim in opposite directions, creating the bracelet’s dynamic sense of movement. The eyes and water bubbles are punctuated with inset amethysts, further enlivening this sophisticated design.
Born in San Francisco, Carr had a lifelong fascination with Asian art. She met the silver designer Antonio Castillo (1917–2000) in 1937 while visiting Taxco, the epicenter of the modern Mexican silver industry. After the two married, she became the lead designer in his workshop Los Castillo, which was established in 1939. Following their divorce in 1946, Margot opened her own workshop known as Margot de Taxco.
