Curatorial Notes
Margot van Voorhies Carr, better known as Margot de Taxco, came to Mexico from San Francisco in 1937 and married Antonio Castillo. After the Castillo brothers and cousin Salvador Terán left the Spratling workshop in 1939, Margot, as primary designer, collaborated on some of Los Castillo's best work. In 1947 she established her own workshop. Her designs are characterized by scrolling elements punctuated with beads and stylized plant and flower motifz. This bracelet and necklace reveal Margot's life-long fascination with Asian art forms.
