Curatorial Notes

Together with her sisters, Esther and Helen, Margaret Bruton was a prominent artist in the bohemian community of Monterey. Margaret, the eldest, created abstract designs in stone and terrazzo for countertops, tables, and architectural elements. Although each sister established a distinct style, they often assisted one another with the intricate handwork required for these mosaic pieces.
