Jaroslav Rössler was a Czech avant-garde photographer and painter, renowned for his pioneering contributions to modernist and abstract photography. A member of the Czech Devětsil artist group and an early proponent of Constructivism and Futurism, Rössler created dynamic, experimental works that pushed the boundaries of the photographic medium. His innovative techniques included photograms, solarization, and multiple exposures, often resulting in striking compositions that blended geometric abstraction with Surrealist elements. Active in Prague and later in Paris, Rössler’s work reflected a bold engagement with the technological and artistic currents of the early twentieth century, among them radio. From 1918, he enjoyed assembling amateur radio sets. Later, in the mid-1920s, he incorporated materials relating to radio into photographs such as this one.
