[Galerie de l’Effort Moderne (Léonce Rosenberg), Paris]; sold by 1939 to Robert Allerton (1873-1964), Chicago [1]; bequeathed in 1964 to his adopted son, John Wyatt Gregg Allerton (1899-1986), Chicago and Hawaii; [sold in 1986 through Barbara Mathes Gallery, New York]; to LACMA.

[1]: In his memoir, the artist mentions in an entry on 22 March 1939 that he had seen the painting hanging in Allerton's Chicago apartment. See Amédée Ozenfant, Mémoires (1886-1962) (Paris: B. Arthaud, 1962), 373. Robert Allerton was an architect and collector, an active trustee (since 1919) and Honorary President (1959) of the Art Institute of Chicago.
