An Edwardian novelist, poet, and playwright, John Galsworthy (1867-1933) is best known for his series of novels, The Forsyte Saga, in which he portrayed the fortunes of a moneyed, upper-class English family. Galsworthy was one of the last to be modeled in Davidson’s series of notable living authors. Davidson had met the author earlier and had hoped that Galsworthy would open up to him, but he did not. Nevertheless, Davidson was able to capture what he considered Galsworthy’s "austere beauty" This is believed to be a unique example in terra-cotta.
