Like many of his peers, Ron Cooper uses industrial materials such as Plexiglas, lacquer, and resin to create works that explore color and luminosity. In 1968 he began making a series of works he called Light Traps, including Untitled. For these pieces, Cooper applied thin layers of colored resin onto a cast resin base, then used transparent resin to create the top surface. He purposefully left space between the back and front of these works so that they “trap” the light of the surrounding gallery and appear iridescent.
