This leather-bound trunk was intended as a luxury traveling chest, with its tanned leather covering protecting it against inclement weather.

This leather-bound trunk was intended as a luxury traveling chest, with its tanned leather covering protecting it against inclement weather. The interior surface boasts exquisite geometric designs. Aromatic resinous woods, such as granadillo, were preferred for textile storage due to their pleasant fragrance and moth-deterrent properties. Spain’s coat of arms decorates the interior lid, with the shield set inside a double-headed eagle and flanked by columns with the Spanish monarchy’s motto, Non plus ultra (No more beyond).
