Born in Tokyo, studied with Ogata Gekko, then Kawabata Gyokusho. Entered Tokyo School of Art as Gyokusho student in the Nihonga program. 1891 joined Nihon seinen kaiga kyokai. From 1896 was a member of Nihon kaiga kyokai and participated in the first four exhibitions. 1899 graduated from Tokyo School of Arts and worked in a naturalistic manner of Nihonga.
