Based on the artist’s original painting, this poster by Habibollah Sadeghi represents the paradigm of the ongoing battle between the righteous and the wicked, beyond time and place, and epitomized by the massacre of Imam Husain and his family at Karbala. This key event in Shi‘ite history occurred on the tenth day of the month of Muharram, or Ashura. At right is a proclamation by Ayatollah Khomeini, issued in the month of Muharram in 1978, in which he drew parallels between Imam Husain’s followers and his own followers seeking regime change.
