Curator Notes

...
This table has an openwork front panel with an understated design of two large diamond-shaped frames with double thunderbolts (vishva vajras) in cloud forms and rosettes in the center. Half-double thunderbolts fill the interstices between the diamonds. The corner designs are cloud forms. In the center junction of the two diamond points is a medallion with a multicolored yin-yang or taijitu symbol. The topboard and sides are unadorned. The back is open with a single stretcher bar. See David Kamansky, ed., Wooden Wonders: Tibetan Furniture in Secular and Religious Life (Pasadena: Pacific Asia Museum and Chicago: Serindia Publications, 2004), p. 202, no. 25.
