In addition to championing his work, collectors Marjorie and Leonard Vernon enjoyed a close friendship with the photographer Max Yavno. Describing how the Vernon’s made Yavno’s acquaintance, Stephen White, collector, curator, and former proprietor of the Stephen White Gallery in Los Angeles, wrote:

"Max Yavno was a close, close friend of ours. I went with my wife, Mus, and Marjorie and Leonard Vernon to a show of his work at Barnsdall Park. It was the first time Leonard and Marjorie had seen a whole broad panorama of his work and they were blown away, they bought the entire show, 200 prints. That led to Leonard becoming executor of Max’s estate."
