Curator Notes

After a decade of working in wood, designer Paul Tuttle shifted to metal....
After a decade of working in wood, designer Paul Tuttle shifted to metal. He challenged himself to develop a form that would have been impossible in the former material, eventually creating the steeply cantilevered Z chair, made in strong, flexible steel. Eudorah Moore selected the chair for California Design 9 and for a related display at Carson Pirie Scott in Chicago, where Tuttle won the department store’s Young Designer award in 1966.
