Seki Yūhō was a Zen priest of the Rinzai sect, born in Yabe Village, Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
He received the tonsure from Shōrinji Temple in Kurume. From 1921 he stayed at Bairinji monastery to learn from Tōkai Tenzen Rōshi. Later, he transferred to Eigenji monastery to learn the teachings of Takagi Dokuhō Rōshi. From 1936, he was the chief priest of Ryūsenji Temple in Kobe, then in 1938 he Moved to Jōeiji Temple in Yamaguchi. In 1942, he opened a monastery at Jōeiji. In 1948, he returned to Ryūsenji in Kobe, and devoted himself to the reconstruction after war damage. In April 1956, he became the 142nd chief abbot of the Eigenji sect of Shiga Prefecture, a position he held until 1982.
Since 1973, Seki Yūhō taught meditation in West Germany every year, and was also active in overseas missionary work.
