Marta María Pérez Bravo is part of a generation of Cuban photographers that emerged in the 1980s. In her work, she uses her own body to enact different stories associated with the Afro-Cuban religion Santería. Although the referenced Santería rituals remain shrouded in mystery but for the few initiated in the practice, their power is vividly conveyed in the images themselves.
