Whistler and Venice, January 29-May 28, 2003 ...
Whistler and Venice, January 29-May 28, 2003 From the Venetian lagoon, Whistler sketchily depicts the panorama of the churches of Santa Maria della Salute on the left to San Giorgio Maggiore on the right. He composed the view so that the large ship is similar in scale to the buildings in the distance. The city thus appears to float on the glowing horizon as gondolas waver like the reflections of the skyline on the water.
