About this artist

Maejima Tadaaki was born and educated in Ibaragi prefecture, to the northeast of Tokyo, and taught school there for many years. After World War II, he began an association with Onchi Kôshirô, which inspired him to focus on printmaking and, in 1950, to change his name to Maki Haku. He is famed for the unique texture of his prints, created by chiseled woodblocks and cement molds.
