About this artist
Studied with Tori Tetsuzan (Tessan) in Osaka. Much admired for his naturalist approach. After the deaths of his teacher and his wife, he became a monk. He pursued Buddhist practice at Choeiji in Osaka and Jinko'in in Kyoto. During that time he had many close connections in the literati community. His Buddhist paintings, rich with colors of ink and light pigments, reflect these connections in their warm lyricism.
