Born in Nara Prefecture. 1953 Graduated from Kobe City University of Foreign Studies in English and American Studies, the became a banker. He had practiced oil painting, but in 1957 took up copperplate etching and received training from Izumi Shigeru. He exhibited in the 1962 Tokyo International Print Biennale, and three years later gave up work as a banker to make prints full time. In 1970, 1973 and 1974, he participated in the international print biennales of Florence, Ljublijana, and Germany. Up to 1963 his main subject was railways and railcars.
