The potter Ichino Masahiko has brought ceramics of Tamba--a kiln area that has been producing ceramics since about the 14th century-- into the modern era, with his meticulous blend of black and red clays applied through a process of inlay. Awarded the top prize for a Japanese ceramic artist in 1995, Ichino continues to make functional wares with dynamic boldness. Ichino was an atelier-trained artist who worked under the direction of his father, Ichino Shinsui I, and with the Kyoto potter Imai Masayuki.
1961 Born in Tamba Tachikui
1981 After graduating from Saga Art Junior College Ceramics Department, studied under Mr. Masayuki Imai and his father Shinsui Imai.
1987 Received 3 Seki Exhibition Awards at the All Kansai Art Exhibition
1988 Became independent and built Taiga Kiln
1989 Selected for Ceramic Biennale 89 Selected for Asahi Ceramic Art Exhibition (5 times since)
1992 Selected for the Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition (Many selected since then)
