Born in Nagoya. Early education in Shizuoka at the Metropolitan Castle Jinjōkōtōshōgakkō where he met Nakagawa Yūtarō. In 1930 he graduated from the Tokyo Railroad College. He returned to Shizuoka to work on the railroad. He began studying printmaking with Urata Kumajirō. He exhibited a print that year (1930) at the 2nd annual Dodosha exhibition. Another of his prints was displayed at the 5th annual show held at Matsuzakaya in 1933. In 1932, he had contributed a print to the first issue of "Hangaza", showing "A Korean Doll Head". He contributed also to the 3rd, 4th, and 8th through 12th issues of "Hangaza", all produced in 1933. Also in 1934 he contributed to the journal run by his friend Nakagawa Yūtarō called "Kaketa tsubo", which was published between 1930 and 1934. After the war he ran a freelance printing business that he called Dōgei kōbō in Shizuoka. In 1955, he rejoined the Shizuoka Printmakers' Association participating in their exhibitions and those run by the prefecture.
