Began as a dyer and ceramist and evolved to creating batik prints, working as an apprentice in Kyoto. He next learned woodblock printing, again as an apprentice. Wanting to raise funds for publishing, he dyed kimono and obi during the day and created woodblock prints at night. His magnum opus was "Heisei ukiyo-e Kyoto hyakkei".
