Kuroda Shigeki was born in Yokohama, and completed his training at Tama Art University in 1979, after winning his first award in a print research group exhibition in 1976. In 1981, Kuroda won an award at the Asia International Exhibition in Bangladesh, and did so again in 1982 at the Miami International Print Biennial. The Japanese Ministry of Culture awarded him a grant to travel in the United States in 1984. By then, he had already had two solo shows at Soker-Caseman Gallery in San Francisco and Gilbert Luber Gallery in Philadelphia. During his stay in the U.S., he was invited to do several more solo shows at galleries across the country. Since then, he has mainly shown in galleries in Tokyo, Ginza district and in Yokohama.
His work is in the collection of Tama Arts University, the British Museum, the Cleveland Museum of Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago, among others.
