About this artist
Fujio was the third daughter of Yoshida Kasaburō (yōga painter) and Yoshida Rui. After primary school the family moved to Tokyo and at age 11 Fujio began studying yōga painting with Koyama Shōtarō. Her older step-brother was Yoshida Hiroshi, with whom she visited America in 1903 and participated in exhibitions in various places. In 1907 her work was selected for the Bunten national domestic exhibition. She became a member of Taiheiyōgakai (Pacific Western Painting Society), and of the women's painting group 朱葉会 Shuhakai, becoming the group chair. In the postwar era, Fujio turned more to watercolor and woodblock printing. Flowers were her favored subject.
