According to its designer, the Gazelle chair, named for its gracefully abstracted animal silhouette, demonstrates “a Modern approach to the Ancient Roman stuff I appreciated so much in Italy.” Dan Johnson had the chairs made while he was living there, hiring Italian craftsmen to produce walnut, bronze, and aluminum versions using traditional techniques. The bronze version shown here was finished with an artificial patina, called Pompeian Verde, meant to emphasize the design’s timeless appeal.
