Barbara Willis ran her eponymous pottery studio in Los Angeles from 1943 to 1958. Although her company always produced affordable production-line work, selling to some of the nation’s most prominent department stores, her early slip-cast pottery retained the handcrafted aesthetic she had learned as a student of renowned studio potter Laura Andreson at UCLA. Pieces like this early set of Chinese Pillow Vases in rich turquoise show Andreson’s influence.
